Design for screen printing

This artwork started as an observational drawing, I then added collage and colour for the final piece. I then created line drawings from the work and used them to further create screen prints for my clothing. (See examples below).
This is a digital design for a jumper using my original observational drawing edited to black and white line drawings. This design is clear and would be targeted at the bands fans. I decided to have Dappy on the front of the design, because he is the most well known band member, I also put the band name on the right arm sleeve. The group call their fans Dublets so I also included that phrase within my design mainly on the hood of the jumper.

These are shots of myself, modeling my t-shirt designs that I had used the screen printing method to print onto t-shirts. I did this as extra work towards that unit. In my opinion the colour's worked well but the design could have been better. I could have improved the design by putting two band members at the bottom of the t-shirt (at the front) and the other member at the top, leaving room for the chains to go over the shoulders and connecting with the chains on the back.
These are shots of another design, I experimented on a different colour t-shirt using different coloured ink's and changed the composition. The composition I used on this design works better then the previous design but the colours are not effective and do not work against the deep blue, therefore being the main thing I would improve on reflection.

Media Experimentation

This is my final paper design for a poster, I did not manage to finish this design as I did not put the information on the design. This is what I used for my experiment with screen printing (Final screen prints below).
This is the result of the screen printing experiment. The composition I used worked really well, as well as the colour theme. I would have liked to try a variety of different colours within this experiment but I didn't have enough cloths to experiment with.

These shots are the result of the experiment. I wanted to try printing on a different material so I could use my other composition design. The print on the back of the right arm did not print successfully, and I would have liked to have experimented with more colours on a jumper but again did not have the cloths to experiment on. Other then those problems raised I think this experiment was successful.

I enjoyed this project, mostly the designing process and the final result. Other than the problems I have raised I think the project went well and the results were good.

Poster's for Dias mixed target audience

I created this poster for the Dias campaign. My target audience for this design is college students. I drew the smoke by hand using Abode Illustrator.
This design is aimed at high school students. I created this design for my Dias campaign. I used Abode Illustrator and Photoshop.
This design is aimed at primary school children. I created this design for my Dias campaign. I used the program Adobe Photoshop. (Cartoon characters are not my own work).

This project is my final designs for my final major project (first diploma). I designed my own company, I created the company name and logo for a drugs advice and support service. I designed a range of company products, posters aimed at different audiences, compliments slip and business card. I consider  the poster aimed at primary school children as unsuccessful, the poster could give the wrong message to the children because of the children's character relation to drugs.

T-Shirt Design For My Local Youth Club

I composed this design for my local youth club. The design was intended for T-shirts, to give youths a message. They gave me information of what they wanted and a date they wanted it for. I came up with a variety of designs, that I put forward to them at a meeting. They took most to the idea of using a famous face among youths and the typography I have used above. After listening to their opinions and thoughts I created the final design and presented it to them on paper. They did use this design on the promotional T-shirts. They also printed it as a poster.

Self Portrait - Past, Present & Future.

This project is based on a digital self portrait using the theme of past, present & future. I used both Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop during the process. I created a triptych image reflecting my thoughts of each subject. I also created a magazine cover to reflect all three of the subjects.

This is my final image for my past self-portrait. The image is of me throwing a piece of paper in the bin, on the piece of paper is a drawing I drew to represent my past. I chose that particular shot out of a number of shots taken in the studio, because the viewer can see the paper clearly and I was able to past my drawing onto it using photoshop. If I had had more time for this, I would have spent more time on the background and improved it by organizing the typography in a more visual way.

This is my final image for my present self-portrait. My opinion of my present is that I'm now finding my way in life, so with that in mind I decided that for my present image I would be looking up at earth.  I recreated a shot taken of me in the studio, using typography. Because of the length of time that took me I did not have enough time to draw earth, so I got a picture of earth and used adjustments on photoshop. I did that so it would link with the typography.

This is my final image for my future self-portrait. I'm sat on the world because I see my self being settled and to have achieved my goals in the future. I again used typography to create the visual effect of earth, I used words relevant to my opinion and thoughts of my future. This image is the most successful from this project, the only thing I would change is the scale so the typography is clearer.

I composed this magazine cover as extra work. Again I didn't have enough time to complete this how I had designed it. I would change the type face to a clearer typeface and I would have spent more time with the composition of the cover. I would have also created my own barcode for the cover.

In this project I used typography and what I now know to be micrography in the triptych image. I think this method is visually interesting and would be effective used in advertising. The main problem I found during this project, was time. I did have a timeline and kept to it, but when certain designs took longer then available I was unable to complete the image to fit the design.

High Rise Book Cover Design

This is my own design for the book High Rise written by J.G Ballard (original cover below). I took the shot of the image on the cover and used photoshop adjustments to change the effect given from the image. This was a four week project on book cover design, I also did my own interpretation of the book cover for Concrete Island also written by J.G Ballard. I enjoyed this project, producing my own interpretations of these books also helped to understand the visual process more.
This is the original book cover design.

Pen, Wax and Ink Experiment

This piece is a experiment, part of the sweet project. A Still life experimentation using black pen, wax and blue and pink ink. In my opinion those materials are visually effective, they do produce a random texture effect. But the uses for the texture and effect are small, you could not use this process for many things.

Multiple Colour and Use of Repitition

This is a image of my experiment with repetition, pattern and colour. I did this print on A1 black paper to make the prints appear brighter. The sweet pattern is from a observational drawing I did from sweets. I transformed my drawing into line, and applied it to a screen to get the exact same image within the repetition. I decided to repeat the image the way I did so the colours could take priority over the image.

This a single print experiment with the colours and the image with the black background. This is the reason I wanted the colours to be brighter on the above pattern. It is noticable that the blue within this print, blends into the black. I did not choose red and blue for my repeat pattern because of this.

Urban Environment Painting

This is my final painting from the urban environment project. I took a number of different shots of things I considered to be a part of the urban environment in Stockport. I chose parts of some of the images to use within my painting. Then decided on the composition of the details I had chosen. I do not consider painting a strong point of mine, but my painting skills have improved over the past three years. If I was to be asked what I would change about this painting I would say that I'd like to change the composition and maybe sketch the design using pencil instead of using paint, to produce a different style.

Mixed Media Still Life Experiment

The shapes are observational drawings of a paper sculpture I made. Each different square is created using different media. On the top left I used wax and indian ink, the top centre I used parcel paper and black biro pen, the top right I used pastel, ink and newspaper. On the bottom left I used ink and drew with a stick, the bottom centre I used wax and ink and the bottom right I used pencil and ink. My favourite effect that I acheived from the mixed media was the parcel paper and black biro pen. I can not state why I like that the most other then I think it is the most visually interesting and clear experiment out of the six.
